Though the Tropic of Capricorn is half a day’s drive from Letlhakaneng, the village sits at about 1000 meters above sea level. Freezing temperatures are not uncommon in winter; these clouds even brought sleet.
Three of my grade seven learners take advantage of extra lessons held over the winter holidays. Though winter nights can be brutally cold, the midwinter sun can be quite pleasant.
