Looking Glass Rock

June 2010 / Looking Glass Rock / Pisgah National Forest / North Carolina

Water freezes on the sheer granite face of Looking Glass Rock, reflecting light like a mirror. Looking Glass Rock is a pluton, when molten granite solidified formed deep within Earth’s mantle. Tectonic uplift and weathering later exposed the batholith to form the iconic Looking Glass Rock.
